Every June we celebrate Pride Month, which is dedicated to uplifting LGBTQIA+ voices, celebrating LGBTQIA+ culture and history, and supporting LGBTQIA+ rights. “I get a little emotional during Pride,” Eder said with a smile. We had a chance to talk with Eder about the importance of Pride Month and celebrating equal rights.

Question: What are your Gender Pronouns?
Answer: “My Gender Pronouns are She/Her/Hers.”

Question: What does Pride Month mean to you?
Answer: “For me, it’s a time to reaffirm that I’m part of a fierce and fabulous legacy where transcending hate and demanding justice is…normal! And, unfortunately, in the current climate, urgent again. These days are about re-charging energy and uniting; yet joyful and beautiful with shared laughter — and sometimes tears — with each other and LGBTQIA+ allies.”

Question: Why are you proud to celebrate Pride Month?
Answer: “Celebrating Pride Month to me is about visibility and an inclusive, collective ritual that spans time and space. We are chosen family, resilient, where dancing is indeed part of the revolution. Happy Pride!”

Question: What advice would you give someone in the utilities industry who is LGBTQIA+?
Answer: “I do not take for granted that the SFPUC embraces diversity. Shame kills courage and creativity, qualities that make a workplace either bad or extraordinarily productive. I am productive here because I can be myself. So, if you’re also celebrating Pride this month, know that you have friends and allies. Stay strong, strut your stuff, and spread the love!”
